  • Drafted welfare and retirement summary plan descriptions (SPDs) for a large car accessories manufacturer with numerous grandfathered groups and special provisions and variations.
  • Rewrote welfare and retirement summary plan descriptions for a manufacturing company to include HIPAA and other legislative updates and to make reader friendly and useful.
  • Wrote and managed production of regularly published retiree newsletter; topics included increased retiree medical plan contributions for 1998 and explanation for increase, comparison of retiree medical plan to those of similar companies, administrative changes, corporate updates, retiree call center and benefits advisers profiles, survey results reports, and a regular wellness feature.
  • Developed transition 401(k) and employee stock option communications for newly spun-off companies as well as the original company.
  • Updated and created 401(k) communications for large resort/entertainment organization, including explanation of summary annual report (SAR).
  • Wrote retiree medical summary plan description for new company. Plan includes POS (point of service), indemnity, PPO, and HMO options for under 65s and indemnity for Medicare-eligible.
  • Created retirement planning presentation for nonprofit medical foundation employees.
  • Worked as part of dedicated team to create communications for a new international employee stock option plan. Project included personalized grant certificates, brochure, managers' questions and answers, tax information for eight countries, celebratory materials, and materials distribution logistics under extreme confidentiality restrictions. Written materials, translated into eight languages, designed for audience's low reading skills.
  • Worked as part of team to develop confidential benefits and compensation handbook for newly named C&L partners.
  • Supervised the writing, design, and production of three pension and nine welfare summary plan descriptions for a university.
  • Wrote and produced a retiree brochure and medical summary plan description for the university. The plan uses a preferred provider organization for retirees under age 65 and Medicare coordination for retirees age 65 and over.
  • Created a combined year-end pension/401(k) statement for a large printing company and developed supporting communications for benefits advisers at the locations to explain the new statement format. When surveyed about their employee benefits communications, an overwhelming proportion of employees said the statement was the most useful benefits communication they received during the year.
  • Wrote and managed design, production, and distribution of employee and retiree benefits communications for the same printer, including newsletters, brochures, and presentations. Active employee communications focused on the company's transition from an indemnity medical plan to managed care (point-of-service plan) and open enrollment issues. At the same time, handled communications from corporate benefits staff to benefits advisers at the locations.
  • Coordinated writing, design, production, and distribution of annual profit sharing report to employees for a large bank.
  • Wrote an employee survey feedback report. The survey covered a wide range of issues, including benefits, diversity, training and development, treatment of people, work and life, empowerment, and so forth.
  • Wrote employee handbook covering issues ranging from employee benefits to workplace theft.
  • Designed and edited retiree life insurance and health summary plan descriptions.
