I am old like the river
Like the river, running straight with the surety of youth
Like the river, twisting and winding with the uncertainty of age.
I am old like the river
Like the river, I have run my course.
Of the river, left but a trickle, a glisten in the sun
And of me, a photograph, a still, flat shadow.
A trace of what is no more.
